It’s been a minute, huh? I’ve been lucky enough to catch up with many of you recently. After getting back to Tejas in September, I turned 31—no more wishes to make, just feeling thankful for what’s already here. Our visit was perfectly Tex-Mex—the best tacos, BBQ, ranching (with friends, not food!), and lots of family time. But the best part was finally meeting my beautiful niece, Natalia. She’s a total cutie!
Of course, I began California dreaming again, especially after O headed off to spend time with his family. I made my way back to San Diego just in time to see the Padres in the playoffs. During my month there, I soaked up all my favorite things about the city and the people I love who make it home. I also couldn’t resist crashing a Halloween party at my old work dressed as Where’s Waldo—thought it was fitting since lately a lot of folks have been wondering where in the world I am.
As O and I continued reflecting on our travels, we couldn’t help but keep dreaming. So guess what? WE GOT A VAN! We’re stoked to hit the road, exploring the land, mountains, rivers, and everything in between. It’s amazing how much we’ve managed to fit in this home on wheels—electric guitar, keyboard, snowboards, tennis rackets, camping gear, and a few books. We’re focused on living simply and intentionally, cherishing the freedom and opportunities we have, and staying grateful for every moment, whether it's challenging or beautiful. There’s so much to learn from each experience, and we’re excited to dive in.
Speaking of learning, I’ve been reflecting on a passion of mine that I'd like to share. For many years starting in college, I’ve mentored students, guiding them through academics, personal growth, and the sometimes overwhelming journey of life. It’s incredibly fulfilling, and with everything happening in the world, I feel more eager than ever to support young people, particularly high schoolers, as they navigate their future paths. Whether it's planning through high school, telling their stories to colleges, or figuring out what to do next, I hope to offer clarity, encouragement, and inspiration. If you know any teens (9th-12th grade) who could use a little guidance or just someone to chat with, I’d love to help. In the meantime, we're hitting the road back to Texas for Thanksgiving and then my cousin's wedding in Mexico. I’m also excited to keep writing these updates and sharing the journey with all of you. Please let me know if there's anything specific you'd like to read about! If you know anyone who’d enjoy following along, feel free to share the signup form for these emails.
Thank you, as always, for all the good vibes. Here’s to exploring and making the most of life!
With love,
Andrea Mayela
